Project 1 – Concept Development
During this week, I decided to take the course of my thinking further to explore the meaning that links my charcoal drawing, the Flamenco Dancing and the Mature letterform-Typface concept. I took further research by watching Flamenco Dancing documentary, analysing how dancers voice their movements, and how that revealed in the form of my drawing. Flamenco resembles the accent of balance, as the ‘Mature’ is striving to maintain that point, ‘Balance’, and capture the changes that boils inside the human.
I discover that, the ‘Mature’ word must emphasise the tenet of ‘Balance’ and provokes measures of a Typface, which prominently based on curves, angles and adjacent lines. ‘Mature’ Typeface as elegant expression of the Flamenco dancer, searching for the pivot of his action, that will make the letterform express the meaning of ‘Mature’. Delicate, smooth and natural feeling letterform, created by overlapping layers made from paperwork, folded and twisted to give internal tension to the letterform feel and look.
‘Mature’ word meaning encompasses strength and streamlined spiritual and the physical, which creates bold and thin structure to its letterform, the closest to the Art Deco typefaces. Therefore, I want to visualise a letterform that provides rhythmic structure of bold and thin, black and gray shadows.
To be ‘Mature’ is to accept myself , as it is.
