Project 1 – The Architect of the Letterform
At this stage, the letterform need to be architect and sculpture. Doing so, I need to analyse the original letterform of the Art Deco, and using basic shapes to rebuild my letterform to give it an architectural visual appearance. Experimenting the letterform help me understand how to layer my charcoal drawing against each letterform, moreover; provide individuality and uniqueness to each.
The Manufacturing Process
Using a high-density Foam to manufacture the form of each letter, and Balsa rods as linear elements of design. Combining both solid and void elements provides rigidity and consistency.
Building the Letterform
The next stage shows how each letterform was build, assembled and together brought with the Balsa lines.
I progress the manufacturing and feel quite satisfied with the result.
Visual Concept
Now, it is the time to communicate my charcoal drawing to each of the letterforms, and turn them using the paper mache technique into a sculpture form of paper art. The visual result will be dynamic and expressive. Each letter will dance and tells a different story, together they will combine to give the ‘Mature’ its meaning.

The Final Outcome
I captured a rough shot of the final outcome of the ‘Mature’ as told by the story of charcoal drawing and paper art. This will be refined in the next stage of the project.
